DON'T BE CONFORMED
Romans 12:2 AMPC Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].
Life is often restricted by the channel it flows through. If a person feels limited or restricted, they are only limited by the restrictions they have inwardly.
We’ve often heard the proverb that says: “as he thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7).
It's a very popular quoted verse in Christianity that perhaps is not taken as seriously as it should. Although this proverb was speaking about a deceitful ruler, we can glean from the principle. Our thoughts, words and actions do impact our lives.
Before The Apostle Paul wrote Romans 12, Jesus had already prayed to The Father God that His followers would think and act independently of the system of the world.
John 17:15-16 MSG Just as I didn’t join the world’s ways. I’m not asking that you take them out of the world But that you guard them from the evil one. 16 They are no more defined by the world Than I am defined by the world.
A simple interpretation of this prayer in the Message Version is: “Don’t allow the world to limit or define who you are, what you can have and what you can do". Christianity is rich in the powerful promises of God. Some of them are mind-boggling to unbelievers. Read on:
Philippians 4:13 AMPC I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency].
Mark 9:23 MSG Jesus said, “If? There are no ‘ifs’ among believers. Anything can happen.”
Through these scriptures and others, God opens up the way for you to receive divine power and abundance, if you don’t allow the world system to define or limit you.
The world defines Christianity as some weak, passive, milquetoast, pious religion. Here’s how Jesus defines it.
Matthew 11:12 NIV From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.
This next scripture has agitated many unbelievers because they don’t want you to live according to God’s standard. If you’re going to advance, they want you to advance along their ways and their schools. They see Christians as perennial beggars.
Romans 5:17 AMPC For if because of one man’s trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive [God’s] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
There are movie stars now on TV who offer to show you how to pray and invite you to join their little prayer APP. The only thing they’re going to show you is how to become a passive Christian.
But if you allow the Holy Spirit to pray with and through you, He will make great power available to you and make things work for you.
Romans 8:26-28 KJV Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God (the word of God). 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
So don’t be conformed, be transformed! Be transformed into the person God intended for you to be. No person or APP can do this for you, only God working through His Son (The Word) and The Holy Spirit can.
Romans 8:37 NKJV Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
