FULLY PERSUADED
Romans 4:17 KJV (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before Him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
Sometimes we need to learn something by reading into it what is not stated. If you want to learn to live by faith, you also need to know what faith doesn’t say or do. Faith does not call things that be, as though they are not.
For instance, some may have adopted the teachings of Christian Science or metaphysics and say that sickness does not exist because it’s only a state of mind.
If that were the case, God would never have called Himself Jehovah Rapha (The God who heals you), if sickness didn’t exist. Sickness, lack, poverty and unhappiness are all the result of the curse on planet earth because of Adam and Eve’s sin and rebellion.
When facing problems such as sickness or lack, many Christians have mistakingly said that those things don’t exist. They say things like: "It's not there, or I'm not broke" etc.. If they didn’t exist, then why are people even dealing with them? Here’s what the Bible says about those things.
2Corinthians 4:18 KJV While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
First, where it says: “we look not at the things which are seen", does not mean they don’t exist. It means that we are not going to focus on or allow those things to dictate to or intimidate us. It said: “Things". Things here mean something that is a lie or something that isn’t in God’s plan.
It also said they were temporal or temporary, meaning they are subject to change because they manifest in the temporal, natural or physical world. God deals with eternal things that should be and are not seen naturally at first but are seen first by faith.
The Bible doesn’t tell us to call things that be, as though they were not. It says to call things that be not as though they were. If health is not in your body, then you call health as though it should be.
If sickness or poverty is there, then you had better deal with it, or you may die or go broke. If you're not fully in faith, then you'd better get help from a doctor or a finance consultant.
I heard about a man who didn’t want his child to receive medicine for the fever his child had. That is foolishness, because the child may not have the ability to believe yet. The man’s ignorance about faith put the child in jeopardy.
Hosea 4:6 KJV My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
There are a lot of well-meaning Christians who have suffered and even died because they didn’t take the time to learn the truth about God’s Word. Our confession should be based on what God’s Word says and not on the circumstances.
Let’s look at Abraham and Sarah’s life. It took them approximately 25 years from the time they received the promise of a child until the child arrived. Once Abraham was fully persuaded, from that point on, he didn’t stagger in his faith.
Romans 4:18-21 KJV Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. 19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: 20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, He was able also to perform.
The key to making faith work is found in verse 21: “being fully persuaded". Faith works when a person is fully persuaded. Remember, it took Abraham 25 years to become fully persuaded. Hopefully it won't take any of us that long.
Many people are frustrated or some have even died because, through fear, they focused on what was seen, the temporal, as 2Corinthians 4 said. They kept saying it wasn't there, and instead the problem grew worse (Mark 5:25-26).
It’s important that when you speak, that you speak or call things that be not as though they were, based on what God says, and not the circumstance.
Yes, we desire to be healed when sick, or desire finances when we lack them, but desire is not faith. Second, every mountain is not the same size. That means some things require a higher level of faith than others (Mark 11:22-23).
Hebrews 10:23 KJV Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised;)
Let me close with this; see yourself fit to receive God’s best as you believe and speak His Word. Jesus (God’s Word—John 1:1), has made you fit through His sacrifice. Become fully persuaded as you continue to confess Him as your Lord and His Word as the final authority in your life.
Romans 4:22-25 MSG That’s why it is said, “Abraham was declared fit before God by trusting God to set him right.” 23 But it’s not just Abraham; 24 it’s also us! The same thing gets said about us when we embrace and believe the One who brought Jesus to life when the conditions were equally hopeless. 25 The sacrificed Jesus made us fit for God, set us right with God.
